The starters were a disappointment. We ordered a pork belly and a salmon tartare. One of the 3 pieces of pork belly was literally just a piece of fat with no meat at all. Very fatty and greasy, which you would expect of a pork belly, but everything has limits. And then the sauce and that toast - the dish all together had a fast-food taste profile. Do not recommend. The salmon tartare tasted just like lemon and pretty much no other flavor to it. Very plain, not interesting. Absolutely not worth the calorie budget and the money budget too. Game meats, on the other hand, were a pure delight! We ordered a trio plus the quail and a duck breast - everything was just great👌 Elk was tender and delicious, rabbit was flavorful, bison was very bright, and quail... well, that's just a quail, can't expect much from it, but it was good. And I liked the duck breast cooked to perfection with the sweet notes from dark cherries. All meats came with great matching sides - just really good! So if you like me don't like to put mediocre food inside of your body, my good advice to you is skip the starters and go straight to main courses. That's what's worth it! ❤️ I will be back for that game trio for sure!

Haven’t been here in years and wasn’t thrilled About going because I’m not into dead animals on the walls all around and not into gamey meats… however they changed the menu so there are more normal options to choose from. The place is set in the canyon surrounded by oaks and the room is legit log cabin style and even tho the animals are still on the wall it’s a pretty cool environment. Our waiter was great but the guys who actually served the meals were a lot to be desired. They didn’t speak much English and every single time didn’t get the dishes to the right people …it was like they had no idea what they were doing. The food was flavorful but luke warm. I had the filet and I like a steak to come out hot. My husband has the rib eye and his was the same. The Cesar had almost no dressing so we needed to get extra. They also didn’t come around and ask if we wanted refills on our drinks. The best thing was the Johnny cake - which was like having dessert first. The bill was nearly $1000 for 6 so pricey for the level of service etc. …a dinner here Once in a decade is enough.

As you step into the lodge, you're greeted by an ambiance of rustic refinement. Hunting trophies and mounted animal heads adorn the walls, softly illuminated by candlelight. Spectacular views stretch out before you, and the attentive staff, clad in their crisp uniforms, glides through the dining room. The crystal glasses feel substantial in your hand, and the plush leather chairs sink beneath you, adding to the sense of comfort and luxury. But it is the food that truly sets Saddle Peak Lodge apart. Its exquisite cuisine transports you to a time when elegance and adventure were the hallmarks of fine dining. The menu specializes in wild game dishes like elk, bison, and buffalo, each prepared with meticulous care and attention to detail.

Went with friends for New Years Eve reservation 8:30 pm. Only 2 other tables the whole night with only 2-4 people. Our group was 6 people. Took 1 1/2 hours to get our food. I was very specific with the waiter I couldn’t have the lobster coconut sauce on my salmon. The food finally arrives and I’m starving and his helper puts my plate down covered in Lobster sauce. I waited for the waiter because his helper didn’t speak English in the meantime I was scraping off the sauce and by the time he came over my friends ate most of their meal. I said they put the sauce on my salmon and he has the nerve to say “I’ll get some napkins for you to wipe the sauce off” I was in complete shock. I said I can’t wait another 1 1/2 hours to wait and being allergic I need the chefs to burn all the sauce off. He didn’t care didn’t offer something else for me to eat or even take it off the billl. I will never return again!

This place is especially beautiful during fall/winter. Best Christmas 🎄 decor. Service is fantastic. Food is always tasty. Plenty options to share from. We love the Elk, quail and Vietnamese pork belly. Olive 🫒 cake is my favorite dessert. Reservations are needed.

The Saddle Peak Lodge is a must visit for my family and I when we are in Los Angeles. It is a drive through Malibu and up the mountains to get to it but it is a gorgeous route even at night. Let me start off with saying I absolutely love this restaurant but if you are an animal lover it's a bit hard because it is a hunting lodge atmosphere with animal heads and pelts as decor and if that turns you off this may not be for you. The employees are all wonderful and the last time we went we wound up with a small wait and one employee took us on a guided tour of the lodge and told us all about the history of it (and some possible ghost sightings) right up until our table was ready. The food is wonderful, I really enjoy the Pink Lady Apple Salad, Brussels Sprouts, Mary's Chicken Breast, and sorbet trio. If you're a more adventurous eater my father really enjoyed the Chef's Game Trio of Emu, Elk, and Bison. It's a beautiful place in a gorgeous location with delicious food, what more can you ask for?
